Roger Lewis made this observation a little while back. (ref: viewtopic.php?t=4838)
Others may have some experience, too... so I thought I would make a general post.
Roger mentioned that the rotary valves on the Miraphone 281 F are innovative with respect that they all turn into the air stream. I'm curious... if this is truly an innovative approach, and there is a benefit, can older rotary horns be modified by simply moving the rotor stop plates on the offending valves 180 degrees?

The answer is.....
Yes. a good repair technician can turn these for you. I have a friend who had his older 5/4 Rudy's valves turned and it made a noticeable difference in how the instrument played. Just make sure they get the angles correct so that you don't wind up with one cork being huge and the other being a nub.

Re: The answer is.....
Thanks, Roger. I am certain I can perform the work but I was just curious why it isn't a popular conversion since it can make an improvement. I've never given it a thought until you mentioned it a couple of weeks ago, but now this is on my 'projects' list to do to my B & S stencil.Roger Lewis wrote:Yes. a good repair technician can turn these for you.
