Best Handel "Water Music" Suite for brass quintet

Post by JCradler »

Folks,
I've been looking for a suite from the Handel Water Music for brass quintet and have found arrangements by Mills (Canadian Brass), Holcombe, and Allen. We most likely won't have a piccolo player and are looking for a user friendly edition that will go with minimal rehearsal. Anyone know any of these?
Thanks in advance.

The Allen version, IMO, is not particularly user friendly due to the 1st trumpet being an all-Eb, all-the-time part. If your 1st player has the equipment or the transposition chops, though, its probably doable.

From strictly a "how it sounds" point of view, I like the Mills arrangement.

I am partial to the Mills one as well. Used it many times for church gigs...
