Composer John Barry dies

Post by Wyvern »

Sad to loose another great composer. Although not a big tuba part, I love his music for Dances with Wolves!

The thunderous chords in ZULU will always roll through my head. His other compositions are delicious, but the ZULU score is absolutely gob-smacking.
". . . and madly he played . . . "

For some of John Barry's best film music ( including Dances with Wolves and a thunderous performance of Zulu !! ) and for some great brass, check out the Royal Philharmonic's Moviola 1 and Moviola 2 CDs recorded with Barry himself conducting in the early 1990s. I think they are still available on Amazon...

I agree with Neptune.
Mr. Barry's music, Dances with Wolves in particular, touches me. As a pro with 40+ years performing, I have to say that this score brought me up short.
RIP, John. And thank you.
