I have to help a friend of mine to sell this horn. It's an F Alexander 157 in good condition... no important dents and lacquer is very good. It has just some slow rotors and two blocked slides because this horn was not played for three years but in next days a repairman will work about it. It has original hard (and very heavy) case. The owner want to sell it in Italy (not in other countries), but she don't know how much this horn. A guy is interested to buy it, but the owner don't know the market price to sell it.
If this tuba was yours, what price do you sell it?
How much this used Alex?

Re: How much this used Alex?
That´s a beautiful horn on these pics, even if it took me two screens to view them.
I´d have the horn lightly overhauled to fix those sluggish valves and the stuck slides. It´s the only way to prove to a testing buyer that the horn is in great technical shape, and it might cost less than 60€, depending on what kind of work needs to be done.
As a buyer, I´d testplay the horn and would compare it back to back
to the one I already have. If it outplays my horn, I´d be willing to pay what I´d ask for my old one. If it doesn´t, I won´t make an offer.
The age is another issue. Someone told me the ones from the 60s were better than the ones built from the mid-seventies, but that´s a rumour.
Maybe it´s just that it took other manufacturers long to catch up with their quality.
