Any opinions on the Arutunian (sic!) Tuba Concerto - been trying to locate a copy. I have heard some excerpts and it seems surprisingly melodic and accessible.
I want to try this with one of my Diploma students, so if there are any REALLY difficuklt passages please let me know
Many Thanks

Composers shouldn't think too much -- it interferes with their plagiarism.

It's a fine piece; I'm working on it now. The most difficult aspect of the piece is that it requires a nimble character in the upper range of the horn, but since all of the upper range stuff (d-f above middle c) is scalar, it's not too bad to tackle.
One thing to consider; I have heard that Sam Pilafian has performed this piece and has some useful insights on interpretation (from what I understand, the sixteenth note runs don't have to be in strict time, and some trills can be added to the slow movement, among other things) has anyone else heard of his tips? Care to share?
