US College Ranking: top 30 music schools

I have no idea what the criteria were, but a lot of these choices seem like no-brainers. Credibility TBD, so you decide.

I don't think anybody will agree with the exact 'rating' of the schools but there's no doubt these are all fine schools and some fine schools have been omitted. Thanks for this post!

Where is Depaul? Duquesne? Boston Conservatory? Berklee? Minnesota?

Proud alum of Northwestern. I would stack the brass student body/faculty there against ANY other music school in this country.

Well considering Yale only offers Graduate level degrees, does this mean undergraduate work was not a criteria for the whole list?

Whenever I see a list like this, I want to know who put it together and based on what criteria. How wide was the distribution in scores? We all have our favorites and could challenge a few on this list. I'd say most of the large Universities have a good to great music program. Smaller schools would depend on their focus (aka hit or miss) with a few fantastic. Tune in next year and see a different ranking.

Being tangentially connected to the oboe world, it is rarely disputed that Richard Killmer (oboe professor at Eastman) is "the" guru of the oboe.
fwiw, I sent my daughter to Eastman to study the oboe with him. If one is going to pay through the nose (and "the" guru accepts you into his limited-to-four-per-year studio), why not pay through the nose to study with the best?

When I was choosing schools, I was given "full rides" to good schools. However, I decided to go to Eastman (which wasn't a full ride). The musical training that I recieved at Eastman is used everyday and I have never regreted making the choice to go to Eastman.

Don Harry is one of the best teachers in the world and without him, I wouldn't have gone as far.
