As some of you already know, I have no teacher. Not because I choose to be an autodidact, but because here in Azores there are no tuba or even trombone teachers.
I can play a good range. from the first note of the piano (or even a little lower) to F above the staff (or even a little higher...) in a Jupiter 582 BBb (or in any other tuba, I think...).
That is quite good for What I want to play. In terms of range.
There are other, and more important concerns however.
- some mid -range notes (around 4th partial) are difficult to attack. the notes come dirty in the beguining of the sound. Is there any tips to correct that? I have that problem in any tuba I played. I play for about 3 years now...
- I can slur almost anything. even big intervals. but its very difficult to me slur between 3rd and 4th partial (it jumps from 3rd to 5th or comes dirty). again on any tuba.
I need help...
Attack!!!

Hello
I couldn't help but notice that you are from the Azores Islands of Portugal. I was wondering which one Sao Miguel?? The reason I am asking is because I am Portuguese, although born in Canada both of my parents are from the town of Fenais de Luz in Sao Miguel. I have been back there twice with THE Banda Lira Portuguesa de Brampton.
I think it would be cool if we could chat.

I am from Pico but I live in Terceira Island.
I studied composition in lisbon. I'm teacher of composition and acoustics in Angra's Conservatory of Music.
I'm not pro tubist but I love to play tuba. I'm 31 years old. I think it must be too late to ever play well. But I'll try. In S. Miguel there is a tuba teacher. But I rarely go there.
I try to show the people here that the tuba can play anything and not just the oom-pah that we use to hear in our bands.
Fortunatly, I could find people to form a brass quintet and performed some solos. quite nice. but I want to play better. our quintet is amateur. for the good, and for the worse... we will get better.
I added your contact to my MSN.
thanks.
