'actually watched this earlier in this week.

In that clip, Mr. Szentpali playing the BBb tuba was nicer to listen to than him playing the CC tuba.

It would appear that he has quite an affinity for his Meinl-Weston 2250 F tuba.

My mid-range hearing has taken a hit over the years first working on the flight line around jets in the Marine Corps back in the mid 1970" thne 30 years in the fire service around air horns and sirens, Diesel engines and centrifugal pump whine.

However, it seems to me that the CC has a bit greater range both on the low and high end and a slightly softer voice than the BBb. The F tuba seems in a different class all together.

And I correct, or are my ears failing me? Does the key of the instrument have an impact on the voice of the tuba or is it player input? Or, all the above?

The Bb sounded softer but that was probably due to it pointing kind of away from where he seems to have the camera set up for the other horns. He does sound clearer on that.
Is he not playing that 6 valve SLP thing anymore? He sounds pretty badass on that 2250.

Just tried a 4460 - it's a mythically wonderful instrument. I'd put it in the category of "perfect" F tuba. Roland's decription is perfect. It reminds me of an Alex in character, with a modern feel and center. Rediculously good tuba!

I liked Fountains better on the Bb.

I found the comments about how CC is a bit more soloistic and the BBb is more broad and has more fundamental to be right on; generally speaking that is. Of course if you have a 5/4 CC and a peashooter BBb that might not be the case. There is a big difference between the two and for me it takes practice to be able to switch back and forth. It's not only the fingerings but the way the instruments respond is quite different. (CC is easier!)

I wonder how much of this "difference" is a York-ish piston tuba vs. a Kaiser rotary tuba. Wonder what people might think if this were a York-ish BBb and a Kaiser CC compared to each other.

Good. I was picturing Roland in the same room with different tubas sitting around him.
