Sellsmanberger Rim Differences
I was just wondering about the differences between the of slickness of an H-Koted rim vs. a non-coated rim.

Re: Sellsmanberger Rim Differences
I have a TiN coated rim and a number of plain stainless steel rims. I can not tell the difference between the two. The real difference is the extra money you pay for the TiN coated rim. It looks pretty. What do you value more aesthetics or money

Re: Sellsmanberger Rim Differences
The H-Kote (black) seems to be slightly smoother. That being said, I've tried 2 plated rims on the Sellmansberger (I still own 1), and own an unplated steel euphonium mouthpiece, so it's not a direct comparison. But I distinctly noticed an ease of cleaning up the H-Kote rims of regular crud build-up. Also, my plain steel mouthpiece has scratches, while my H-Kote rim has absolutely none; it's objectively harder and more durable. Subjectively, it's also more comfortable and seems smoother. If this is just a placebo effect, it's a rather nice one.
(ps. I'm quite happy on tuba, but if I happened to get another steel euphonium mouthpiece I would almost definitely get it H-Koted.)

I play on the H-kote rims and I love them! The rim seems more durable to me and is much smoother. To me it feels like the difference between stainless steel and H-kote is the same sensation between brass and goldplated rims.

Thank you for all of your reply's because they have cleared up the difference between coating especially when you compared it to brass verses a gold plated mouthpiece.
