Did Bill Conti ....

......... steal his theme for Rocky from this piece of anonymous music ?

In the mid 70's I bought this record album "The Art of the Baroque Trumpet" published by Nonesuch records (Cat.# H-71217) The first piece is 3 Sonatinas for 2 Clarini by Anon.(17th) Century. It's copyright date is 1969. I was surprised to hear then what sounded exactly like the opening to "Gonna Fly Now" as the first track.

The recording above is directly from that very album I bought way back when. Vinyl stills sound better'n mp3 to me.

"Vinyl stills sound better'n mp3 to me."

Good because vinyl does sound better than MP3 (assuming a good turntable and cartridge is used) Phil

No. The Theme from Rocky has bass and synthesizer parts and is a lot longer than this. There are no lyrics either. Couldn't possibly be Rocky theme.

There is an article I read somewhere showing many of Andrew Lloyd Weber's melodies direct relationship to classical music themes. After all, there are only so many notes and rhythms, almost anything is bound to sound like something else.

But no, this couldn't possibly be the Rock theme.

I dunno, but a lot of his stuff sounds like a lot of other people's stuff. There's another thread about this. I remember sitting in the audience when The Right Stuff came out, and realizing that a lot of the opening thematic material had been stolen from Tchaikovsky. And then, in the middle of the film - he just flat-out played stuff from The Planets. Which was OK, except for the cuts...
