My mouthpiece won't fit!

I just got a G & W Williwaw mouthpiece for my MW 2000. I love the piece, but the reciever is too big and the mouthpiece falls out everytime I lie the horn down. Is there any adapters / quick remedies I could use to solve this problem, or am I SOL?

Dillon music used to stock and adapter from European Receiver to American shank. Give them a buzz.

On a related matter, the university has a bunch of old Besson bell front, 3V semi-compensating hors. They have very small recievers, so most American shank mpcs don't fit. They only go in a 1/3 of the way, making the horns flat, and all the other problems with a poorly fitting mpc.

Where can one get the proper shank for them? What's it called?

Any way to use a Am. shank on them? Most student mopcs are amshank, which fir the Sousaphone already. They aren't likey to buy another for these horns only.

Hey guys,

We offer all of our mouthpieces in large shank, standard shank, and small shank.

The Large and small shank options need to be specified when ordering the mouthpieces.

You can have a shop replace the receivers to accommodate standard large-shank mouthpieces. It's not a difficult job.

Alternatively, purchase your favorite Denis Wick mouthpiece in a size without the "L" suffix. For example, a Wick 2 (but NOT a 2L) will fit your instruments.

While you're there you might try an adjustable gap receiver...sorta kill 2 birds with one stone.

It's kind of a long story.... When I got the horn, I still had a jury / concert to finish on BBb so I couldn't start CC yet and sent it in for a chem clean. That's when I bought the mouthpiece. When I got the horn back and realized it didn't fit, I was already past my return period. I realize it's my fault, I was just hoping there was a quick fix.

Here's a thought...

While I am all for keeping us repair techs busy, I would suggest selling the current mouthpiece and ordering one with the correct shank. Sure, you might lose $25 or so in the process, but it will be cheaper then having horn surgery. Daryl
