Tuba mutes in music
Wanting to ask anyone here if there is a symbol or phrase listed in the music indicating when to install the mute inside a tuba. I'm getting one today and can't wait to try it out!

Re: Tuba mutes in music
I believe that would usually be: "con sordino" or "w/mute." Possibly: "muted."

The notation that I most commonly see is C.S. shorthand for con sord

Re: Tuba mutes in music
I wouldnt/ didnt buy one until I had music that specifically required it...con sord. , senza sord (c.s. , s.s ) I have an Apperton that keeps my horn in tune while in use that has been used twice ( Ellerbys Paris Sketches ) and possibly Bernsteins Slava ?
A total of 10 bars and maybe 8 notes all totalled . I think if there were one or two of these amongst everyone in Tubenet we could share them and never not cover a part properly...

Re: Tuba mutes in music
I have a friend who turned his tbone mute into a flower vase. Every concert that calls for it, he pulls it off his window sill....tuba mute...those silly modern composers!
