I got to hear the TN Tech Tuba Ensemble last night in Oak Ridge, TN. They were great! Of course, Winston Morris was his usual entertaining self.
They opened with Zarathustra, and when the low(est) tubas came in on the unison pitch, one of my students leaned over to me and asked if it was only one tuba. They had a beautiful sound.
The rest of the show was lights out. I commented to Winston after the show that even though I play at least a couple of hours a day, I don't think my chops would have held for that set. They played the lacquer off the horns.
They are finishing up in E. TN tonight in Kingsport and tomorrow in Greeneville. There's a W. TN leg in a short time. Complete schedule is here: http://orgs.tntech.edu/tuba/calendar.htm
And if any of you techsters are here, GREAT JOB!

I am convinced that 90% of the problems with rhythm, tone, intonation, articulation, technique, and overall prowess on the horn are related to air issues.
