Practice Mute for Norwegian Star E flat

Post by tubabill »

I've been looking through the forums and found a lot of comments about How Dennis Wick mutes Were designed primarily with British style E flats in mind. Has anyone used this mute on a Norwegian Star or have any suggestions on a good practice mute for it? Thanks!

Hi Bill,

I had a NS on approval for a couple of months and, with a baby in the house, a mute was essential kit. I have a DW EEb mute (there are also DW BBb mutes available which don't fit as well but look the same until you have the 2 side by side) and a Wallace Collection Eb practice mute. Both seemed to work fine - in lowering the decibels and allowing me to play without waking up the little 'un. I can't comment on the acoustic merits as in my experience ALL mutes affect tuning so I expected these to - and they did. Nothing a bit of lipping couldn't deal with though except in the really high stuff where every note could be played on every valve except the proper one :)

Hope this helps,

Phil.

Schlipf has a great variety of practice mutes.
I'm shure he has something that fits the NS.
Send him a note. I'm sure he will help you.
