As I recover from several months of planning and a tremendous inaugural festival, I thought I'd share the results of this year's Brass Quintet Competition at the Calvin Smith Festival in Oak Ridge, TN.
The judges advanced five quintets to the second round of competition - All of which were really top notch groups. There were three prizes awarded after the second round:
1st Prize of $2500, sponsored by the Eye Center of Oak Ridge was awarded to: The Bluegrass Brass Quintet from the University of Kentucky in Lexington.
2nd Prize of $1000, sponsored by the KnoX Brass WorX Co was awarded to: The Fireside Brass Quintet from SUNY-Fredonia in Fredonia, New York.
3rd Prize of $500, sponsored by Rush's Musical Services was awarded to: The IB5 Quintet from Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN.
Along with the competition there were exhibits, coachings, concerts, world premiers and lots of awesome fellowship and hanging out. I hope some of you can join us for next year's competition!
