Hi Everyone,
I just got an e-mail to sub for an orchestra gig in April. The personnel manager listed the program as Excerpts from The Ring-Wagner and Dvorak Symphony #8. I've played the Dvorak several times. I've played most of the standard Wagner concert selections. My question is about the ""Ring excerpts. Is there an actual piece that someone has put together with selections from the operas? I've never heard of such a piece. My contact isn't a player and so couldn't answer my question.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
Pete

Re: Ring Excerpts
Talked to a friend of mine who hadpurchased a whole bunch of Orchestra Excerpts and here is where he got them from. You'll have to spend some cash upfront but you can get PDF's with the excerpts.

Re: Ring Excerpts
All the parts are on IMSLP for free. Now, the Cherry and Torchinsky books have the specific excerpts not just the full opera part.
You have time, so dont fret if you just got the call. They will have the music sometime soon, probably. Have fun!

Re: Ring Excerpts
Thanks for the info so far. I have several excerpt books as well as stuff from IMSLP and have been working on them for sometime, just for my own enjoyment. What I was asking was, has someone (arranger, transcriber, etc.) chosen/compiled selections from "The Ring" into a piece intended for concert presentation similar to (if you'll forgive the analogy) what has been done with selections from ballet or Broadway shows? I certainly have not heard of such a piece but I've not done a great deal of orchestral playing for the last several years.
Again. thanks in advance for any and all info.

Pete,
Perhaps your orchestra is performing the 70-minute long
Wagner: The Ring: An Orchestral Adventure Without Words (arr. Henk de Vlieger, as recorded by Loren Maazel)
If so, enjoy!
BTW, noticing that you are in Roslyn, I grew up in northeast Philly and then Dresher, and my family lives in Elkins Park. I wish you a safe battle with Sandy.
