Did my good deed for the day (found stolen horn)

So in December a friend of mine had went in to dinner with friends and left his horn in his car as he ate. When he came out it was to the surprise that his car had been stolen with his horn in the trunk . After looking through craigslist and other places he eventually claimed it on his insurance and got his cash for the claim.

Fast forward to Jan 26th.

I was attending the CMEA music educators conference when I walked by a vendor that sold used music equipment. I, being a nerd, noticed that in the corner of his exhibit has a cleaned Meinl 2145 for sale. I asked about the horn and we talked about price. I noticed when I took it back to a sound room to play it that it had some of the custom touches done that my frinds horn had . I called him up and he came to the convention to verify that it was if fack his 2145. After the police seized the horn he might have the opportunity to purchase it back from his insurance for a discounted price.

I hope they find the person who sold it to the vendor and prosecute them. Otherwise, the only person that gets screwed in this story is that vendor.

Makes me think - I am not good about keeping track of serial numbers.

definetly a good idea to have those on file. The only way the horn was even seized by the police is because he had the serial number on a document he gave to the insurance. And to the ubove comment. Yes the vendor does have all of the documentation on the thief.

Assuming the thief gave accurate information to the vendor. Here's hoping.
