Pretty cool looking Mira 184 at BBC. Anyone know the history behind it?

Did they just extend the leadpipe and tuning slide leg to make up for the shorter bell? Very interesting, I've never seen such a horn!

Would that have originally been a Bb? I wonder where the bell came from. Ti is very interesting. I have an ongoing project with my 184, I'll post it later, different than this. I like this design a lot!

Miraphone 184 CC tuba 5RV very small bell kopi.jpg
Never had any Miraphone tuba in my hands as the B&S models were much more accessible here. Took a look in my galleries, where the only 184CC represented was Tommy Johnsons double tuba based on a 184. To my surprise it had the horizontal tuning slide.

The circa 1993 Miraphone catalogue has many variants of rotary tubas, but the 184 only is represented in BBb.

Impossible for me to tell from where the above BBC sample has its bell, but as the ferrule sits much higher than on American made tubas, the bell is very short. Maybe a bell from a straight Kaiserbariton cut to fit the ferrule diameter.

It certainly is a squatty little guy! I like it!

The mouthpipe looks to have a significant amount added to it. Wonder how well it plays...
