lip relaxation

Post by dsfinley »

Does anybody have anything they do to help relax their lips after playing?

Depending on the extent of the workout, my pattern is a few scales from mid to low range, sort of mid tempo progressing to long tones in the pedal range or close. Almost always I play the Dies Irae `a la' Berlioz starting on the fundamental of whichever horn I am on. no logic to it, really, it simply feels good to me, and I don't have chop issues very often.
