Free Solo Download

Post by Toobist »

Hi all,

I'm rediscovering Sibelius software and for my first project since acquiring the new program I've transcribed a solo a friend of mine has challenged me to play. After listening to Pokorny's "Tuba Tracks" my friend thought it was impossible to play J.S. Bach's Sonate (partita) flute solo BWV 1013. I suggested it's quite doable and he called me on it! Damn! Back to the practice room for me!

Here's a link. http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=287c ... 075cde8582" target="_blank

Enjoy and feel free to send me any edits you'd suggest. It's just a first draft.

Thank you for sharing the file. I was able to download it, but the MediaFire pop-ups and advertising did not make it easy. Right now my printer can't seem to get past the first page.
Here's an example on a different file-sharing site that is free and (for me at least) is a lot less confusing:

Thank you very much! I love playing some Bach pieces (parts of cello suites for ex.), even if it's very challenging for me. I think I could never present that in a concert, that would be far beyond my limits. But it helps a lot for building up flexibility, endurance, taking quick breath, and overall musicality. Also good to play them down an octave.

The overall musicality aspect isn’t the least important one. Aside of writing good music Bach also is great music education. Even his single line stuff like this piece displays immense sense of harmony. I like, mentally that is, adding chord symbols while playing such music.

I have seen editions by other tubists, where I have been very saddened by seeing melodic minor notated with lowered 7th and 8th steps rather than raised 6th and 7th steps. This problem is not seen here, where the accidentals all appear to be handled correctly.

Young mavericks may play this music on bass tuba or maybe even on contrabass tuba. My choice would be euphonium or bass trombone. Even a single valve tenor trombone should be able to cover the range.

The only matter I wonder about is the handling of the beams. Already on the 4th beat of the second measure standard notation rather would have the beams above the notes. Minor problem and very easily corrected.

Definitely worth downloading!

Those sit nicely on my BBb's down an octave. I'm too old to play that high. :)

New version for anyone who might be interested. I fixed a couple errors and added some suggestions for breaths.

Thanks to those who offered suggestions!

I was looking everywhere for this file! Then I remembered I'd shared it with all of ya! I had to download my own stuff.

Here's a bump for those of you who might be interested in this transcription.

Enjoy!
