Different Rotor Bumpers on the Same Horn?

Post by Z-Tuba Dude »

I have noticed that on a new Miraphone, there was, what seemed to be two different bumpers, on each rotor. It looked like there was a neoprene bumper on the forward stroke side, and a cork bumper on the return stroke side. Anybody know why???

I get my cork from music repair shops. I started using the cork/neoprene combination in high school, because the neoprene lasts a lot longer and that side of the horn for me takes more abuse.

Speaking of rotary bumper material...

I usually use sewing machine belt material for my rotary bumpers, but lately I've noticed more wine bottles showing up with "synthetic" corks rather than natural corks.

I just wondered if anyone has try this new synthetic cork material for bumpers?
