Holton sousaphone problem

Post by BrassKicksArse »

Hi, im new here, and id like to get a little help with a sousaphone i recently acquired.... its an old Frank holton and Co., in silver plate. its a great playing sousaphone, but somethings been bothering me... whenever the bell is on the instrument, part of the bell is showing above the collar. about a quarter inch or so. So now, im curious as to whether the bell and the body match.i could not find a serial number on the bell, but the one on the body is 197XXX. Ive done quite a bit of research and i could not come up with anything. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

the male tenon's length is longer, but it looks as though in the past a the ring around the tenon has been moved up and resoldered higher.
