Here is an updated list with a few more excerpts that have been added to this series of videos on how to practice orchestral excerpts. Areas that I focus on are, approach, rhythm, articulations, sound, style and most importantly making the most out of them musically. If there is something that you would like to hear specifically, shoot me an email.

Thanks for the series, Tom. I don't agree with every point you make in every video but I do appreciate the great deal of effort you've gone to in creating them.
And, after all, a wide variety of opinions on playing the excerpts should always be welcome.

Thanks, this is a fun project to do, as long as I can find a few days a week to work on them as I plan on adding more each week.Todd S. Malicoate wrote:Thanks for the series, Tom. I am glad you have your own way to work these as I am only bring ideas to the table. The goal for all musicians is to become our own and to find ourselves. If these can help anyone then I feel these will be a success.over the years when I was auditioning I feel I was pretty successful using these ideas, too bad I could not control my nerves as this is why I gave it up 12 years ago.
Thanks,
Tom

I took a look at the Meistersinger and the Hindemith. At first I thought there was no sound track at all. The tuba comes through fine, but your voice is inaudible.

I will try a different place for the mic on the next few videos to see if that helps. One issue I found is if the mic gain is to high then the tuba gets too distorted.Art Hovey wrote:I took a look at the Meistersinger and the Hindemith. The setup I have at home is a standard computer and I use headphones, I can hear it very well but your not the first to say that there is an issue with the voice part so I will work on making it better.
Thanks,
Tom

To make this work well, you really need two microphones, one for voice and one for the tuba.
