You might be able to find someone playing it on YouTube. Good luck. Ed

Re: Area band aduition New Jersey help!
thank you very much! that would assist me so much thank you i actually am from Flanders new jersey so i go mount olive high school my brass teacher Darrell Hendricks(i am not sure if you know him or something ) has got me into the band and ever since i got into the band i am consistently practicing trying to be better and this would be a great way to show my improvementsnorlax wrote:Greetings from the 1969 1st chair in Area (West Morris Chester) and 1st chair all-state NJ tuba player (though I'm now playing 100% euphonium)!
Roger Lewis, who also posts here, established a tuba tradition at West Morris that I was fortunate to continue. I see you're in Budd Lake, right? There was no Budd Lake HS in the system when I was in HS; Budd Lake kids went to WM Chester. Soon after I graduated, another HS was built in Mendham.
I'm not sure if Harry Salotti posts here, but I know he's on FB. We were at Indiana U together for a while. I'm sure he would respond positively to a polite inquiry about his composition. Though I don't know this particular composition, I do know that Harry is skilled at both classical and jazz playing. That may lend some insight into the piece.
Keep us posted on your progress. I send the occasional post to Harry; if I do one soon, I'll tell him about your inquiry, but you can get it right from the composer's mouth (or keyboard)

oh my gosh that"s so funny it actually might because my teacher found it for my friend Sjohn and he sold it to me would u like to see a picture? its in nickle plating and thank you so much that truely means a lot coming from a highly experienced like yourselfsnorlax wrote:I knew Flanders well from HS. I lived on Schooley's mountain, which had a Hackettstown mailing address but was in the West Morris/Chester school zone.
In fact, the dePrins tuba you are using may well have been one that the school in Chester had owned. My junior or senior year WM Chester bought a couple of DePrins and a couple of Mahillon tubas from Walter Sear. I studied with Walter from 1968-1970.
Please do give Harry a shout on FB. He lives somewhere in Jersey; I forget where.
He's a truly fine player, especially in jazz, so I'd guess that his "Stylistic Suite" might have that influence. Tell him Jim Williams the euphonium player sez hi.
And BTW...I am 61 years old, played in a lot of big places, made the finals in a service band audition, and I'm still trying to improve! It never stops!! Keep up your fine attitude--it will carry you far, in and out of music.
I'm gonna FB harry now.

tell your teacher Wes says hi! I went to MSU with him and he guest conducted a brass band I played in. He's a great musician, player, and teacher. You are definitely lucky to have him!

Do not forget to practice your scales and get your sightreading together. It's not just the solo.
