I am trying to my homework by listening to recording of players using a 653 F tuba because I am considering buying one in the near future.
I will like to hear your opinion on this tuba.
please mentioned if you use it as a solo, chamber or orchestra setting.
if you have recordings of yourself , I will like to have a chance to listen it.
please feel free to email me.

Used it for solo, loved it. It looks innocent, but it does have a punch if you need it. Everybody who listened to me play it said its much louder than I usually play.

Re: Cerveny 653 F
I used to own one. It's a fun little horn, very easy to play and it sounds much bigger than it looks. I've used it for everything, and though it's capable of being used in an orchestra, that depends a bit on how it works with your trombone section.
I liked it a lot, but physically, it was VERY small (about 32 inches tall). I never felt totally comfortable holding it, so I sold it.
I bought mine used, so it was not expensive and "for the money," it was a great deal. I'm not sure what they cost new now, and what other options might be available for the same money.

Re: Cerveny 653 F
I adored this horn.
Sold it only because money was super tight at that point and my wife's laptop and other things were stolen.
Adored it. It IS short, as pointed out. But I'm 5'8" so it wasn't a terrible problem. Still larger than the Yamaha 621
Solo or chamber is good. It would work in orchestra but require some pushing (and it takes the pushing well, doesn't break up). But for larger works it wouldn't work too well.
Intonation great and manageable and the note slots are fantastic (especially ALL the low notes).

Is this at all like the model you are discussing here? It seems like a very good deal on a very
nice, excellent condition used horn.

Re: Cerveny 653 F
Yep, that's the one. The fifth valve linkage on that one seems a bit more reasonable than mine was (mine had a very long throw, and was a little awkward to use). The valve linkages on mine was SILENT, and I never had a single problem with it.
I think the comparison to the Yamaha 621 is a good one -- physically, it is almost identical in terms of height and bell diameter. I think the 621 is a bit more "automatic," but the Cerveny has a more interesting sound.
(My former Cerveny is somewhere in Peru now!)
