Last night (Oct 26, 2013), we heard the Duquesne University Tuba Ensemble play for 1/2 hour at a community library event in Pittsburgh. They played one of my daughter's arrangements. (She's a junior in High School. Her tuba teacher is on the adjunct faculty at Duquesne and he asked her to arrange this piece for the ensemble.) As I understand it, the group this semester is almost a pick-up band due to conflicting schedules. But they gave a fantastic 1/2 hour's worth of music with selections from Bach, Rossini, and (of all things) Kansas, among others. Some of the players in here are exceptional (with some awesome horns, too).
This is the video of "Carry On My Wayward Son". Because it wasn't really a concert, there's a lot of background talking. But the group sounded great, which I hope you can hear on the recording. I must say, their balance and intonation, all night, were spot on.
