Linkage Work in South TX

Does anyone have - or know someone - experience building linkage assemblies and converting 'clock springs' in south tx? I'd also like some valve venting done: less of a "do it yourself" project.

Don't tempt me - the way the weather is in Iowa now, I think it'd be great to spend the next 3 months in south Texas, repairing tuba linkages, sunning myself and eating Tex-Mex food. If you were to send the horn to Iowa, it would get a free cryogenic treatment while in transit!

Is it a universal paddle assembly? Will it work on an old cerveny 651 with 's bend' linkages?

'was in the 80s all day today down where I live! That's a good suggestion. I've never met Lee, but I could try to get a hold of Ray somehow. I wanted to go up to their tubachristmas event, but couldn't make it. Oh well . . .

The Jin Boa linkage will fit and can be fitted on most horns. The main issue to consider when converting from clock springs is the hight of the risers as most of the older clock spring assemblies are too short and have to be raised. For the clock spring conversions I have done I would say is not for the do it yourself. The other issue you will have to face is connecting to the stop arm as there are some alterations that are needed.

do what Lee has recommended and invite him out of the cold to come down to texas, a good repair tech is needed on this kind of job. When ever I have sold paddle assemblies or linkage parts I always ask for pictures and measurement s first so the customer can get a good idea of what to expect. For most modern applications the Jinbao assemblies work well as I have used them on alexanders, cervany and b&s tubas. The last thing you want to do is spend money on parts that you can't use. Rebuilding what you have would be my first option as this type of setup is great when maintain ed properly. When i changed the old stuff on my b&s the new Jinbao paddle assembly was a perfect fit.

Terry Ghiselli is an amazing repairman. He used to be in Houston, but he is in Round Rock now. He is the only person I trust my stuff with. Great slide work on my trombones, and he can fabricate parts too. I was learning brass repair when he first came to town and I watched him do some amazing things (my brass repair career was short lived, but I have the utmost appreciation for it). He did great work on my tubas. If anyone in the south texas area could do it, my money is on him.
