Case/Gig Bag for a Conn 14J Eb
Just received a nice little Conn 14J Eb, and look forward to playing it once my DW 3 mouthpiece arrives (thanks to the search function for pointing me toward the DW). It arrived sans case, and I'm looking for a case or gig bag that I can use to protect the horn/tote it around. Any 14J owners out there that can share their experience? Many thanks!

Don't own a 14J, but it looks like it might be close in size to my Buescher; and I've looked around for an inexpensive bag for that horn (no real luck).
You might take a look at the model 61 Gard bag: http://www.gardbags.com/portfolio/tuba-gig-bags/. Unfortunately, it's a little too small for my Buescher, but your bell is smaller and I think the 14J might fit in it. The Gard people were very pleasant and informative when I did talk to them.
I have a Gard bag for my Wessex EEb and am quite happy with it. Again, it's not a high-end bag. But it's well made and definitely adequate for normal use of taking the horn back and forth to events in the back of the SUV. One feature I really like about it is that it's a top-loading bag and there is a padded but rigid insert that fits firmly in the top and protects the bell (which it has for me on a few careless occasions). Comfortable to carry with handles and backstraps. The padding is what I would call "moderately good" (probably about 3/4" of stiff foam). It's otherwise a lot like the Giardinelli bag I used to have for my BBb horn. And you can get either leather or Cordura. I got mine (Cordura) from Musician's Friend with a small discount and free shipping for around $150 about six months ago. Here's the page for the 61-SK (Cordura) model: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/brass-in ... 0431517027.
I'm pretty careful with it because it's not super protective, but it's done well by me and in terms of price/peformance I don't know that it can be beat. Wish they had one that would take my 17" bell

Re: Case/Gig Bag for a Conn 14J Eb
Great tip, thanks. I use a Gard gig bag for one of my trumpets and like the way it's put together. I'll measure the horn height to make sure I don't exceed 35", since that's described as the max height. Again, thanks!

32 inches tall, 16 inch bell... Tiny little thing, and very light!

This is a simple top load bag to carry under your arm. Outside measurements are 38 inches long by 17 inch bell. I used it briefly with a 3/4 BBb. PM me if interested. I am a short drive away.
