Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto--Band Transcriptions?

Post by kprinz »

Out of curiosity, are there any band transcriptions of the orchestral parts to the Vaughan Williams Tuba Concerto? If so, are there any available to the public?

Thanks!

The only one I know of is a nice transcription done by Denis Wick: http://deniswick.net/solo/tuba-concerto.html

I wish I could tell you whose arrangement it was; I played the VW at Wayne State in 1984 with the symphony band under Harold Arnoldi. He probably either owned the band set or borrowed it from Cass Tech HS, where he had previously taught and conducted a student performance. My best guess is that it had been arranged by Jerry Bilik or some other Michigan-based arranger. Oddly enough, I never discovered who arranged it; I had everything I could do to have the solo part ready!

That said, if you contact a librarian at WSU, you might be able to discover something useful. I'll see if I can find it in my programs archive.

What I'd like to know is there's a wind symphony/concert band recording of Vaughn Williams Tuba Concerto?
