Re: How many tubas should one own?
I currently have 2 tubas (otherwise it would be a oneba
). But in all seriousness, I have a "large" BBb (VMI 3302). It is great for large ensemble music. In addition, I have an F (Willson 3200 RZ-5) that I use for a majority of my solo work. To add, I use it in my small ensembles too. In the future, I would like to get a smaller BBb to add to my collection for lower solo rep, quintets, and other instances where a 5/4 isn't necessary. As a current student, I do just fine with two, but the third would be a nice luxury

Enough.
Any fewer would not be enough and any more would be too much.

How many *do* I own? Just the one.
How many *should* one own? I'm amazed nobody's come up with the obvious answer:

Re: How many tubas should one own?
I have bought the horns that I now have to better cover work that the ones I had weren't giving me the sound that I wanted. If you pretty much just play one full time job with the occasional outside job I could see a big contrabass, a medium contrabass, and a bass tuba. And maybe a baritone if the work is there(and you like to play baritone). My problem now is as an older guy not taking much work, not that there's much to take, it's probably time to thin the herd but it's wierdly hard to part with them.Mabye I'll just leave them to my kids and friends, except for the one my ashes will be in. It's an interesting thing when your job is also your hobby, Ed
