Music for brass quartet?

Post by hubert »

I am about to start a brass quartet (2 trumpets/cornets/flugels; 1 tenorhorn/french horn and 1 euphonium/trombone). I would welcome suggestions for good compositions and arrangements, with indications from where to get it (for free will have our special attention :) ). All players are advanced level.
Thanks for your help,
Hubert

Here are some excellent quartets:

Some of these will be played on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage on January 29th by National Symphony Orchestra Youth Fellows. This particular quartet has a tuba instead of trombone/euphonium, so he just changes octaves whenever appropriate.

Look into our libraries (3) for ideas. If you see something you are interested in, I can help with a description.

A brass quartet of unusually accomplished young kids performed at the Kennedy Center in DC, right across the river from the Tuba-Euphonium Conference. Here is the link:

http://www.kennedy-center.org/explorer/ ... rce_type=B" target="_blank" target="_blank
Click on the 1/29/14 performance, they start at 38:15, and it is necessary to use headphones or large external speakers to hear the tuba.

Gabrieli ed. King Canzona per sonare No. 2
Pachelbel arr. Thomas/Holcombe Canon in D
arr. Holcombe Tiger Rag
Sousa arr. Holcombe Washington Post

Nathanael High, Forrest Johnston- trumpets
Gabrielle Pho- French horn
Diego Stine- tuba

The arrangements work very well, the tuba parts are good (even on the Canon), and the Tiger Rag is particularly fun!

These guys have some nice pieces too: http://www.dorm40music.com/" target="_blank" target="_blank

Most of these are quintet pieces but might work in a quartet situation too. Worth checking out.

Fellow TubeNetter Craig Garner has arranged quite a few pieces for sale here.

Love this version of the Tuba Rag at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04PWhO6wd2A" target="_blank. Even nicer, there is a link to the sheet music. 8)
