FYI-
Just thought I would pass along that the Dalyan Apollo F tuba did a great job (with a little help from me) this past weekend during the San Antonio Symphony's performances of Pictures.
I have to admit that it has the easiest high g#'s of any F tuba I have ever played and my colleagues were very impressed with the dark sound it produced. Even more so when they found out it was made in China!

Probably is very close to the old 180, although I personally never remember playing one that blew as free as this Dalyan (and it is actually named the "Neptune", not the Apollo that I said earlier  ). It would also be interesting to see how close it is to this new "Firebird" F that Miraphone is coming out with.
The Conn conversion sounds very interesting, let us know how it turns out when you get it finished!

Nope, the price doesn't go down when you put it in your shopping basket. And I notice that the shopping basket was no longer available for the Yamahas. You'll actually have to call on the phone to find out the real price on these.bloke wrote:Sometimes (for various advertising contractual reasons) websites cannot advertise below a certain price point until the very moment that the "rubber meets the road".
I don't understand how they'll capture any interest with such a high price point.

Well let me see if I can make this even more confusing for everyone.
First off, no the M&M's are not made by Dalyan.
Are they similar in construction? Yes, very much so.
Do they play as well? I don't know, never played on it.
There are several manufacturers in and around Beijing and many of them have the same style and design of tubas (thus there will be differences in price). Dalyan is simply one of the many but they have been specializing in tubas and euphoniums for over 50 years, longer than any other manufacturer.
Only time will tell how these companies will deal with the new world market they are now finding themselves in. I suspect they will fair well as long as there is quality that goes along with the price.

That is what it will take ... it'll be interesting to see how they do.leehipp wrote:... Only time will tell how these companies will deal with the new world market they are now finding themselves in. I suspect they will fair well as long as there is quality that goes along with the price.
