Estonian tuba

Post by gionvil »

A friend of mine from Estonia found this instrument in the attic. It's marked B.F. Esto -Muusika on the bell, which is 30 cm in diameter, and the total height of the instrument is 97 cm. I couldn't play it yet to test the intonation, and it will take a while before I can go there to try it out..
Does anybody know if it could have been produced locally, and more or less how old could it be ?
Thank you

Bohland & Fuchs. Tiny bell but too long for a euphonium. Probably an Eb tuba but could be an F.

The valveset, clocksprings, paddles and stanchions look identical to my Schuster which was built in Markneukirchen, a stone's throw from Kraslice. Likely they were sourced from the same supplier. On pretty good authority the Schuster was built between 1884 and 1896.
