Opinion on Schilke MPs

Post by BBruce107 »

So recently I have been playing some more solo literature for college on an F tuba. I heard that the Schilke mouthpieces are a good option do to their smaller sizes. What I am wondering is if they are worth it or if I should consider other options.

Hello,

There are a lot of great smaller mouthpieces for F tuba solo literature. I don't regularly use it, but the Schilke Helleberg works great for me on my Alexander F. YMMV. It really depends on you (different people like different things) and your horn (different F tubas may warrant different equipment).

Best of luck to you!

I play Schilke MPs exclusively on trumpet, cornet, and euphonium. Their quality control and consistency is among the very best I've encountered. It's somewhat remarkable that they sell these for about the same price as the often-junky Vincent Bach offerings. I would not hesitate to buy a Schilke tuba 'piece, if the need should ever arise.

I auditioned a number of F tubas, and play my Holton E-flat, with a Perantucci PT-62. It was a delightful match for the F's, and the Perantuccis are also very nicely made.

I used to play on a Schilke mouthpiece exclusively.

Their original Helleberg copy (model 66) was very nice but also has a small rim diameter (31.52mm).

The small rim is the reason I do not use it any more. It was a good piece when I did use it though.

I always liked the 66 for when I was playing F tuba.
