Is there any consensus on what case is best/most practical for a Miraphone Bb 186?
Gard bags?
SKB?
I have a horn with no case.
Thanks!

Hi-
If you mean gig bag, probably a Miraphone 186 blue bag would do you well.

I'm more looking for something that can take a little abuse. I might have to go with a hard case.

I have always used Jacob Winter cases for my Miraphones and Meinl-Weston tubas. They are more streamlined than other hard cases such as MTS and offer great protection.

Re: Best case for Miraphone 186
Recently, I acquired a Gard bag for my Miraphone 186. Pros concerning the bag: well made, protection is good, it rolls very well, has well positioned straps and handles, sufficient pockets for music and kit.
Cons: It is heavy (25lbs), It is large (will not go in my car, have to use the van), Instructions about how to place the instrument inside the bag are not very specific.
It replaced an Altieri bag which has served me well for more than 5 years, but it didn't roll (on purpose) and is not as protective.
I do like the Gard bag overall.
