Quintet Video w/Kanstul 66s EEb or Lidl 702 cc

Post by eupho »

Does anyone have video of their quintet with either of these tubas that they would willing to share?

I don't have a video. I have been looking for an audio file. I play a Kanstul 66 in quintet. These horns match a church very well. It's like playing a pipe organ.

Here is a link to a couple of sound cloud files that are examples of a Kanstul 66 in the quintet setting. The group is not great, but these should give an idea of what a Kanstul sounds like.

The two pieces on sound cloud were played with a Sellsmanberger Symphony mouthpiece. I now use a wedge SJ solo. Changing mouthpieces adds a bit more punch, but you are right, Kanstuls have an organ like sound. It works for me, but I guess it didn't for you.

Thanks for the soundfiles. I have been a fan of the 66s/t for several years. Now that I hear it in quintet I agree that
it is too "organ-like" to work in that setting. A smaller bell might help. The expanse of a church also compounds the problem.
