Question regarding tuba stand

Folks...

A friend of mine was given this stand by a friend. It's built like a tank - well-made, and very adjustable. He asked if I might happen to know the manufacturer (which I don't), or what its resale value might be (haven't got a clue).

Any thoughts?

Looks exactly like my stand. I purchased it from the Miraphone company in Calif. back around the late 70's, early 80's.
Having said that, I've no idea if the manufactured it themselves or not.
The search goes on...

I have the same stand but no manufacturer stamp on it. I paid $60 for it several years ago and the seller was asking $100.

It is the Tuba Tamer by, I seem to recall, Wenger. No idea about price or if it is still made.

I just used the same stand last week for a TV spot on a kids show. 8 bars of trombone, bar and a half to sit behind the tuba (in the stand) and nail the last bar.
I've also used it for quick switches in shows.
Sometimes I'll use it for deathly long rehearsals. I can't play as well but it's great for preventing back and shoulder pain.
And if I'm switching a lot between two instruments in the practice room I'll use it as a "storage" stand. It's just handier than constantly turning the tuba over and putting it on it's bell. (plus I never get the surprise water in the mpc what you can get from flipping the tuba on it's bell).
And half the time I play my Conn 36J I'll also use it as a playing stand. It's amazing how much larger a breath I can take if I'm not engaging the muscles in my upper torso to hold the tuba in place.

Wenger? Really? When I Googled "Wenger tuba stand" I got tones of pictures of a totally different looking stand. The metal tubes were squared whereas mine. like the OP's are obviously round. As well the Wenger's all seem to carry his logo.

I have one of those I got with a pre-1920s Conn in the 1980s. I've kept it because it's rock-solid and holds any horn I've had in playing position.

I had one and it was a hoss. I used it with my Reynolds recording bell, which was a heavy horn. Can't imagine they're worth much, but you never know what you'll get until you put it up for sale.

I'd consider it if I was diagnosed with Deep Vein Thrombosis or brass allegies.

Also, my Grandmother wore something like that when she had polio.

I've had a similar one on the road for what's about to be its 5th tour. The angle of the picture makes it look a little narrow to me. i.e. More miraphone and less big conn. I've kind of tried to find another one and if one came for sale i'd be somewhat interested.

The 20j fit in mine well, just don't leave unattended. Likes to try to topple out. With the big horns it's more of a heavy duty tuba rest than a stand. I'll get a Wenger if I need to support 20j and leave it there.

Funny; TubaNet doesn't know the manufacturer of this stand.

I have two; one which is exactly like the OP's and a second one (found it super cheep at a 2nd hand shop) which differs in two ways.
-The placement of the legs are more "T-like", the OP's are probably like my other stand and evenly placed around the middle.
-The clamps are larger, farther spaced from each other. Also the spacing is none-adjustable, unlike the OP's (ya, and my other stand). I use this one mostly for larger horns like my 36J.

Btw, the main reason I use these stands is for my front bell horns (can't really put them on the bell between long rests, now can I?). The trick to not having them topple over is to set the angle of the stand just a little bit backwards to compensate for the front bells forward weight. I basically loosen the screws for left/right and forward/backward, move the horn in the stand till I find the place where the horn seems well balanced on its own, then tighten up the screws.

I have two of these, mostly for safe tuba storage in the corners of my living room, although I used one recently to hold my deadly heavy and awkward to hold Martin Mammoth. They came in two sizes, the small one as pictured above, and a bigger one with longer/wider arms that could be spread or contracted at the bottom pinch bolt. One of them, in stock since the 1960s, I got for free when our school band director was going to toss it in the dumpster. The other, I got off that auction site for about 60 bucks. No clue who manufactured them.

I have one of these. I use it to store a Mirafone 186 and it is very stable. It is open as wide as it goes and the horn fits perfectly.

Hey, thanx for all the great detective work, folks! Sounds like we've unearthed a manufacturer's name. I did send a pic off to Wenger a few days ago, and they confirmed it wasn't one of theirs. Now we know where it came from. I'll pass the info on to my buddy.

Have a friend with a back issue due to an accident during his holiday.
He would like to keep playing the Sousaphone (a CONN22K).
Does somebody know a commercial Sousaphone stand for standing performances?
