It's a great horn. The ones I've played had killer low ends. I mean earth shaking low end if you will. The valve action was great and I like the rotor on it...very comfortable. IMO it's one of the best all around tubas. Good luck...

I own a miraphone 1291 5vc that I purchased about a month ago. If you search the forum, you will find a not so distant post about an annoying little quirk with the slides. Thankfully, that issue has been resolved.

Since this is my first CC horn, learning to play it is a little daunting, but it has yet to stop surprising me in a very good way. This tuba is phenomenal. But be sure that you try out the specific tuba that you are going to buy. I tried four of them at WWBW before I bought mine, and two of them had an annoying sympathetic vibration on the C in the staff. The other one just felt stuffy and gross. So try before you buy. Don't use a cop out like "I live too far away," or "I dont have the time." I have heard stories of people that had Roger Lewis pick out a horn for them and they were very happy, but I drove 10+ hours to pick out mine because I thought a roadtrip would be interesting.

I also played that rudy 6/4 while I was there. WOW thats a big horn!! But I think I still get a much better sound on my 1291 and it was about 5 grand cheaper.
