Miraphone 1291

Post by phoenix »

I ordered a Miraphone 1291 CC Tuba from the Tuba Exchange in North Carolina and am getting it in less than 2 weeks. I have never played one and I am just wondering what to expect when it comes. I have heard nothing but great things about the prototype and the production model. What can I expect?? Also, for those of you who have ordered a 1291 and are on a waiting list at WWBW or some other place, I have been informed that the Tuba Exchange is getting a silver plated one in around August or September sometime, without a wait.

Thanks!

By the end of next week we will have shipped out the first 9 horns that we have received. We received 4 lacquer horns about two weeks ago and just received 5 more two days ago - they are still being put into the system. Once they are officially "in-stock" I will be contacting the individuals they are slated for and will ship them out.

I know we all want our horns yesteray, but I personally and pleased that Miraphone is taking their time to ensure a quality instrument when it comes out of the box. I've been extremely pleased with everyone of these that I have played so far. It makes me want mine now, but great things are worth waiting for.

It's the best horn I have EVER played.

Okay - yes I have played every horn that has come in, and the equality is extremely good. Alan Baer has asked me to keep a close eye on these to make sure they are all gret horns. If I were to put it in percentage points I would have to say that they have all been within 5% of each other. Comfortable, great sound, great facility, marvelous low range. As a friend of mine said recently: "This is a horn you would have to pry from my cold, dead hands". With each one I play it makes me want my own one sooner but I'm at the end of the list.

Richard Murrow received his recently and we talked about it the other day. To his mind it is a phenominal instrument. He is using it with the orchestra (and the bass bone player loves the sound of it) and in the quintet and they enjoy it as well.

I just receive a few more and will be contacting those lucky people this morning. I truly believe that this horn is better than anything I've ever played and I think Miraphone has hit a home run with this instrument. This will be the horn to beat in the future. My congrats to them on a job well done.

I've been told this was thoroughly explained on the old TubeNet, but I'm not able to find it in the archives. Could someone please give an explanation of the asymmetrical top bow on the 1291? Thanks in advance.

Back up to what LV said the first time...
A Miraphone is a Miraphone
What do you mean "Phoenix, just be careful, my little tuba brother. Some folks in the tuba retail biz have some interesting (earned) reputations."?
