New-to-me Cerveny CCB 601

Hello everyone! Just last Saturday, I met Arthur in Buffalo to trade my 25J for his 601. First off, Arthur has been a fantastic guy to do business with. After we swapped horns, we sat and talked for a bit in a Tim Hortons. My poor girlfriend had to sit and listen to us talk tubas. Those flute players just don't seem to understand!

My first impression of the horn was amazement at how light it was. I'm guessing that's just a mixture of it only having four valves and the characteristic thin brass you see in Cervenys. Overall, I'm in love with this horn. It has a huge sound, and a presence unlike any tuba I've owned. I was surprised at how well in tune it plays with only four valves. I will be adding a fifth valve in the future, though. (I'm currently looking for a .835 rotor if anyone has one lying around).

I've gotten to play it with my university concert band and the low brass ensemble so far. Next week, I'll be bringing it into orchestra as well. Most of the tuba section had never seen a tuba this big, and of course it was passed around and played.

Glad you are having fun with it, I am already having a blast with the 25J. Always nice when both sides of a deal are happy.

Most importantly I brought my wife back a half dozen Tim Horton's donuts so she thought it was a good deal too.
