Ideas for horizontal mts

Post by Wilco »

All,

I'm looking for ideas - preferably with pictures - for a main tuning slide trigger for a horizontal tuning slide. Vertical tuning slide mts is rather straight forward. I cannot see it working for a horizontal slide. Ideas anyone?

Hrmm... maybe something like a super-sized 2nd valve slide kicker?

This should not be too difficult to engineer. Building it is another issue.

One needs basically to transfer a vertical push to horizontal. A simple "see-saw" device on a 45 degree angle, mounted in the horizontal slide area would do the trick. The joints need to be fitted with pivots or ball joints to accomodate a change of angles. The vertical rod, runs through a brace or two, with an articulated arm at the lower end, is attached to one end of the "see-saw". The other end, with an articulated arm attached to the MTS. The spring return effect can be effectively and easily dealt with by using elastic "O" rings. The vertical rod could be positioned where ever it is comfortable and bent to avoid collision with other parts.

It also goes without saying that the tuning slide needs to be perfectly parallel and lapped for smoothness.

Ball joints are available rather economically from a number of Radio Control suppliers.
You would need 4 for this design.
Brass rods also and a tap to fit the ball joints.

I wish I could draw a picture.
Finding or building the parts is the bugger.

Hopefully someone may have a photo of such a contraption.

Look on German sites. I've seen a bunch of kickers here that were for what you need. Most were like a second valve kicker. With either the lever for it in the middle or on the outside of the horn where you would hold it. Pretty nifty but not cheap to build. They also tend to have pretty strong springs, though that seems to be a popular thing out here.

Thanks! I have been googling on German sites, but haven't seen an example for a main tuning slide. Can you post a link?

I've seen a few in the past on this site. This set up isn't what I had in mind but it'll give you an idea.

These guys seem to specialize in tuning triggers:

Might be worth contacting them, maybe not too far from you depending on where in the Netherlands you are.

Hello Wilco,

Not too far from the Netherlands is Gottfried Buechel at Bonn, around 250 km.
He certainly can do this.

Two ideas come to mind that I haven't seen here
-use a rotary valves mechanism.
-use a gear system like found in a clock
Good luck
