I'm just curious if anyone has tried the Conn F tuba there and had any thoughts on it. I haven't had time to travel to baltimore yet.

Lost - There was a time when shiny was my top consideration for a tuba. But after playing much more expensive and shiny tubas, I realized sound is paramount. I really like the low profile and quick action of the string linked rotary valves. My biggest complaint against modern rotary valves is that they are very noisy. Almost like having your own personal percussion section with you always. I feel this tuba is a great find and am looking forward to playing it.

Bort - where in Minnesota are you? I grew up in Minnesota. Inquiring minds want to know.

I live in downtown Minneapolis, very close to the football stadium. I moved here to go to grad school at the U, not sure where life will take after that. My wife is from St Paul, so her parents are out here too.

I love it here... Get a little homesick for the east coast sometimes, but there's a LOT to like here!

Rob -- The super cold weather doesn't bother me very much...yet. I actually appreciate a "real" winter with snow, unlike on the east coast where it's more often 40 degrees and cold rain. And it's weird, too -- here it is COLD but sunny. Out east, it's not as cold, but very gray. The part that bothers me more is this never-ending sort-of-spring weather. It's mid-May... will it ever get warm?

TV -- I haven't been brave enough to try yet. I'm not sure if I ever will be.

Having lived in upstate NY (Ithaca) and Phoenix, AZ, I would definitely take NY and the cold any day over the heat and lack of seasons down here. Ithaca was one of those places that was grey AND cold. But I loved it. The summer and fall made it all worth it.

My wife and I love upstate NY. My wife and I talk about buying a house on one of the Finger Lakes and spending the summers there. You know... if we had money for a summer house. :)

Just wait until you're one of those lazy good-fer-nuttin' tenured professors enriching yourself at the public trough for no work. Then you'll be able to afford whatever you want...
