How Much Do These Tubas Weigh?

Post by Bill Troiano »

I'm looking to, possibly, downsize from my 1292, which weighs 22 lbs. I love the 1292, but it's heavy and my back doesn't like lugging it around. Besides, I really don't need it. I only play in 1 large community band because it's a family venture, but it has 6 tubas in the section. I really don't enjoy playing alongside more than 1 other tuba player in a section. That's why I joined a few community bands in this area when I moved here, and left after 1 season. I still have my 621CC, but it's limited in its use, certainly not in a section of 6 tubas. I have my BMB F and I have my sousaphone, which also is pain to lug around, but I love it. I'm not announcing that I'm selling my 1292. I'm only looking to see if anyone has answers to how much certain tubas weigh.

As of now, I'm interested in knowing the weight (in lbs.) of these 4/4 ish CC tubas that I feel could be used in most situations:

Eastman EBC632 tuba
Gnagey tuba (I already owned one of these)
MW 3450 ( owned one of these too.)
BMB J-844, 4 valves (owned one)
BMB J-845, 5 valves
Vintage Miraphone 186 (4 or 5 valves - I owned a 1972 4V)
Hirsbrunner HB-1P (4 valves - owned one)

I'm thinking anything under 20 lbs. would be satisfactory for aging me.

Thanks all!
Bill

I own a 1972 4-valve 186-BBb--weighs in around 15lbs.

Thanks, Scott. A while back, there was a thread where the weight of some tubas were listed. I believe someone posted that a vintage 186 4V weighed 16 lbs. I could easily live with that, or 15 lbs.
