Perantucci S8?

Post by Robert Tucci »

Mike,

The Perantucci S8 has an interesting history. Many years ago when I studied in Chicago (1958-60) my teacher, Arnold Jacobs, gave me a mouthpiece which his good friend Renold Schilke made for him. Arnold had an extremely small mouthpiece that was delivered with an "Alexander" F-tuba. I have one of these, simply too narrow. Arnold Jacobs always looked for positive factors, in his students but also with objects such as mouthpieces. He told Renold Schilke that there was something he liked about the cup of that mouthpiece. The mouthpiece Renold made was based on the same cup design yet wider. Later such a mouthpiece was avaialable from the Schilke shop as "Model A". Going back to 1971-72 I was in the process of developing a modern F-tuba mouthpiece. One of the samples prepared was the "8" and with a different rim, the "S8". These mutated into the PT-60 and PT-62. At the same time, the mouthpiece that became the very popular PT-64 was worked up. I retained the mouthpiece Arnold gave me for obvious reasons! A photo of the two unique mouthpieces can be sent as required.
