Arban book: melodies & duets...

Post by Wes Krygsman »

Short version: is there a trombone/euph Arbans that has the melodic and duet material like the trumpet and tuba ones? Which one? I only have the Carl Fisher/Mantia version which is missing these sections. Is there a supplement that is only those 2 sections that I could purchase instead of a whole new Arbans?

Long version: So I bought a copy of Eric Bolvin’s Arbans Manual. It’s a pretty cool plan to get through the Arbans trumpet book in a logical manner(69 “lessons”). I figured it’ll keep me more organized with my students working out of the book.

The only problem is that the tuba and trombone books’ exercises are on different pages than the trumpet version so I couldn’t necessarily find the exercises quickly. Sometimes they even have different numbering systems within each section of the book.

So being a geek, I went through the first 10 lessons, found the exercises in each book and notated it in a spreadsheet so I could use this plan for any of the Arbans and that’s when I realized the trombone version I have (Carl Fischer/Mantia) is missing the melodic and duet sections which are in the trumpet and tuba versions.

See “short version” above for questions
Thanks!

The Bowman/Alessi Arban method for trombone and euphonium has all the of the same duets and repertoire pieces as the trumpet and tuba books. You can get it through Encore Music Publishers: http://www.encoremupub.com/arban-comple ... euphonium/

The complete version with arias, songs, and duets is a gold mine of training material. I still have my copy for trumpet which my very impoverished parents bought for my eleventh birthday in 1947. Cost then was a whopping $3.95, a real sacrifice for them. Thanks Mom and Dad.

Do any of your students read Bb treble?

The cornet version is public domain on IMSLP. It comes in 5 sections. You could easily just choose the pages you need.
