Yammie YEB-321 mouthpiece suggestions?
I just bought a 30-year old Yamaha YEB-321 in fine condition (only a few dings and two spots of laquer wear) for a good price. I plan to use it as marching - or maybe solo - horn instead of my larger MW 2141.
Intonation and slotting is fine if I use the original Yamaha 60C4 mouthpiece, but it's just to small on my face. The instrument is tuned fairly high - 443Hz is about 2 cm pull on main slide.
I tried also with my MW mouthpiece, a DW AT4U, but intonation in high range suffers. But I like the rim ...
I see that the new ones are supplied with an Yamaha 66D4, but that seems to deep for the 321 ??
So - what mouthpieces in the 32mm range do work well on an YEB-321 ??
Any proven and working suggestions ??

I've liked the Wick 2L, Wick 2.5CC and the Blokepiece Imperial. All worked well for me.

I won't consider myself any great player or anything, but I used a Jim Self mpc with the one I had

Re: Yammie YEB-321 mouthpiece suggestions?
While I am a tuba player, I own a Yamaha 321 euphonium. When I got it, someone told me to replace the stock receiver with a large shank receiver. I did it and it made a big difference. Recently I bought another 321 and tried them back to back, I am keeping my older one because of the larger receiver. My suggestion, get a large shank receiver than figure out whatever mouthpiece you want later.

When I had one I had very good results with a PT-84.

Re: Yammie YEB-321 mouthpiece suggestions?
Thanks for the suggestions, I check the local availability in the two brass stores we have left and see what I can get. i am not in for any custom mouthpiece, it should be standard out-of-the-shelf. I will mostly use the YEB 321 outdoor in standing gigs.
The YEB 321 tuba has an american shank receiver - but the PT 84 is the larger euro shank, right?
brianf, it's the Eb tuba, not the euph.
The DW 2L is a deep, Helleberg-like funnel type mp, right? I fear it will be lowering the intonation on the higher partials too much as does my DW Ultra AT3U and Ultra AT4U.
Thanks for the input, I'll se what I can find in the local store.

The PT mouthpieces work fine inYamaha tubas, they just don’t go quite as far into the receiver. Here is an older discussion on shank sizes. Read Matt Walters’ comments and rest easy.

Sorry! I use to own the 321 E flat. When I had this I used a Helleburg for a large sound and a Schilke 62 to thin it down a bit.

Thanks for the pointer to Matt Walters discussion on shank sizes. Very educative! PT 84 and Schilke 62 are options I will check in the shop the next days. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestions - I settled on a DW AT5U (with shank turned down to american size), it makes the tuba sing and play better in tune, and has a fine dark-enough bottom register. Nice - this works.
