Hi all,
Don't know much about this literature but I am looking for challenging pieces for quintet and organ. The organist is world class and can play pretty much anything. I want to keep us all interested so looking for challenging pieces. The less holiday specific the better. Not necessarily religious, but most seem to be.
Thanks for any and all suggestions.
Steve

Gargoyle Brass, which is essentially a brass quintet that occasionally enlarges its forces, specializes in brass with organ repertoire:

There is an arrangement for Quintet and Organ of Grand Choer et Dialogue by Eugene Gigout. Amazing piece. Check out the Empire Brass recording.

There’s that whole empire brass album. Not sure if arrangements are available. With organist Douglas Major, I think.

This list would not be complete without a shout-out to fellow TubeNetter Craig Garner, who is with Dorm 40 Music (and may be an owner as well):
https://www.dorm40music.com/index.asp" target="_blank
Use Advanced Search and search on "Brass Quintet with Organ".
Much of these are church music, at various difficulty levels. So far, I like these best:
Introduction and Finale from Symphony #5- Mendelssohn (we played this at my father's memorial service- it was described as glorious)
Maestoso- Finale from Symphony #3- Saint-Saens
Hosanna Anthem- Gregor
Salvation is Created- Tchesnikoff
The Trumpet Shall Sound from Messiah- Handel (this has a solo tuba part!)
If you're looking for something challenging, they have an arrangement of Widor's Toccata from Symphony #5- yes, THAT one
Other sites to try are:
Sheet Music Plus- http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/" target="_blank
Art of Sound Music- http://artofsoundmusic.com/" target="_blank
Trumpet Tunes- http://www.trumpetunes.com/" target="_blank
Brassworks4- http://brassworks4.com/" target="_blank
J.W. Pepper- https://www.jwpepper.com/sheet-music/welcome.jsp" target="_blank
Sheet Music Direct- https://www.sheetmusicdirect.us/?affili ... redirect=1" target="_blank
Canadian Brass- http://canadianbrassstore.com/?vsrefdom ... gIs4fD_BwE" target="_blank
I believe I've bought from all of these vendors at one time or another. Never an issue.

Re: Brass quintet and organ pieces
A couple pieces that are a bit off the radar are Entrata Festiva Op. 93 by Flor Peeters. It's written for organ, two trumpets, two trombones, and timpani, but we transcribed one of the trombone parts for horn, and I played the timpani part on tuba, which is much more complicated a typical timpani part. A second one is All Creatures of Our God and King by Vaclav Nelhybel written for Organ, two trumpets, two trombones and optional tuba and timpani. We again transcribed the trombone part for horn and skipped the timpani. The tuba part is a bit sparse, but otherwise it's very nice.
These are not suggestions for a tubist looking for a real juicy part, but they are nicely crafted pieces.

Re: Brass quintet and organ pieces
There are a few more things from Craig Garner that I have played, including a great arrangement of Elsa's Procession, last movement of Mahler 3, and Widor Toccata from Symphony 5, that are not listed on his website. They are great works as well.

Re: Brass quintet and organ pieces
Andy, those do appear on the Dorm40 site. The Mahler is under the title "What God Tells Me".
Craig and his partner Mike Zavoski are not only talented arrangers, but great to deal with as well.
