PT-S8 & Re-Plating Question

Post by Kunzer »

Tuba Hive - need your help.

Someone brought me in a mp that I'm unfamiliar with - it's stamped as a Perantucci S8 mouthpiece - Made in W. Germany. I've never seen this piece before and was wondering if anyone knew anything about them. Also, the student really likes the piece but it has a lot of wear, and he wants to get it re-plated. Where would one recommend sending this off to, and what would the approximate price range be?

Thank you in advance!

The student really likes the “Made in W. Germany” stamp which why he is looking at the replating option.

With that kind of dented surface, replating may not be a great option, especially if they want the "made in W Germany" stamp to survive. First the silver gets stripped off, and then the mouthpiece has to be prepped for the replate, which often involves some removal of material if the mouthpiece was not treated well.
