Good, but still need to work on it in front of a mirror to made sure I cover the holes completely---and also need to knock out a bad sinus infection I am dealing with....

Putting my face in one of those massage table holes when lying forward clears up mine.
The massage isn’t bad either!!

Wow Mark, that's probably one of the nicest I have ever seen. Who did the restoration and how extensive was it? Do you have any before pics?

Tom-
It had been dropped and had a huge crack. The restorer, Isaac Spaeth, rehydrated it so the wood would be reaquainted, used tiny hand drilled carbon fiber pegs on the cracked area to seal/strengthen it, sealed all tiny holes, oiled it down, etc. etc.
A LOT of delicate work & he did a masterfull job.

Fun! I played woodwinds once upon a time, so that's tempting.
It's cool that there are some adventurous manufacturers making some of these old instruments again. When or where are they used, though? Historic/novelty ensembles? The very occasional orchestra piece that calls for one and the director doesn't prefer it on keyed reed or valved brass?

If you want an original one, Dr Bob Eliason is selling his French 11 key C Ophicleide, with mthpce and case, for $3,000. A GREAT playing original ophicleide.....

You're all a bad influence. I guess it was wrong of me to think of ophicleides as mythical beasts that had all died out.bisontuba wrote: If you want an original one, Dr Bob Eliason is selling his French 11 key C Ophicleide, with mthpce and case, for $3,000. A GREAT playing original ophicleide.....
Last time I was in the shop getting my tuba adjusted, a fellow had brought in a sarrusophone for some pad work, in plain old suburban Austin, so maybe that kind of thing is completely normal.
