In this band's performance there is a neat beat in the vamp just before the first strain. The after beats sound slightly delayed, giving a really nice perkiness to the rhythm. I have noticed this a lot in European marches. Are my ears deceiving me? Is there really a delay in the after beats?

What a wonderful rabbit-hole. The hitch-in-the beat is so together! Its really easy to hear in the smaller groups.

I love the combination of flugels with bass flugels in the baritone register. Slightly dark on the high voice with slightly bright on the low voice. It blends really nicely.

Typical style for the region (Sudtirol) to add a slight delay to the beat. Seem to hear this in a lot of Austrian groups, too. The bands over there are outrageously good.

This "alpine swing", combined with very obvious rubati is a style commonly used, especially during live concerts.

You can also find this kind of specialty applied to original Viennese Waltzes, as performed at the "Wiener Opernball" or annual New Year´s concerts by the Wiener Philharmoniker.

Interesting comments all. I was surprised to see the Brixen band playing English style euphoniums, not oval horns. Frustratingly, the camera seemed determined to focus everywhere else while the euphoniums played lovely melodies. Also, I can’t get Will’s YouTube playlist to work, maybe it isn’t shared?
